IntroductionThis scenic full-day trip from Rome to Capri is a must for any visitor to Italy! You'll sail across the Gulf of Naples to the island of Capri, known as the 'Pearl of the Mediterranean', where you have the option to take a boat ride to the beautiful Blue Grotto and take in stunning views from Anacapri. Your journey begins by heading south along the Highway of the Sun, crossing the fertile Roman countryside and the area known as Castelli Romani dotted with enchanting medieval villages.
Arriving in Naples, you will board a jet boat for the 45-minute crossing to Marina Grande, the port of Capri. Here you will have the option (fees payable direct) of boarding a motorboat to reach the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), where sunlight passes into an underwater cavity and shines through the seawater, creating a magical blue reflection that illuminates the cavern. The boat trip is subject to weather and sea conditions.
On your return to the port, you'll board a minibus for a scenic drive to Anacapri, 918 feet (280 meters) above sea level. You will see wonderful views of the Bay of Naples, before continuing to a local restaurant for lunch. After lunch you can take advantage of some free time to explore Capri at your leisure. Don't forget to bring your camera!
You'll then return to Marina Grande and board the boat transfer to Naples. As you enter the port, you'll see Naples' splendid Castel Nuovo (a 12th-century fortress) and Royal Palace. Next, board the coach for your return three hour journey to Rome. It was wonderful! Ana Capri was I believe the most gorgeous site I have ever seen! 2011-12-15 Heather M , Excellent tour. Just wish shopschad been open, but I understand it was due to the time of year. 2011-12-13 Judith J , Capri is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The color of the water rivals Hawaii, Cancun and the Bahamas. We had signed up to see the Blue Grotto but the waves were too high. This actually worked to our benefit as we were able to take a cheaper tour by boat around most of the island. We then took a bus up to Anacapri for lunch. Beware of the lemonade. It is lemon juice with water....even after added 2 packets of sugar...it was still pure lemon juice with water. Very Tart! Capri is known for lemoncello so of course we had to try that as well. Our guide, Pino, was wonderful. He was very knowledgable and nice to talk to as well.
This was a great breakaway and to me a little known gem to see when visiting Italy. We took the trip from Rome to Naples then the boat to Capri. 2 of us took the chair lift up to the top of the Island. You won't believe the views! Well worth the cost of the day trip. The bus was nice and comfy too.Watch the drivers in Naples while in the safety of the bus. You think NYC cabs are crazy? They have nothing on Naples drivers! 2011-12-03 MDLUVS2SHOP , Absolutely stunning views and experience. 2011-11-21 Matthew M , The ride is worth it when you get there. So beautiful. 2011-11-03 GARY G , USA Awesome time, sorry we were unable to see The Blue Grotto (hope I spelled this correctly). 2011-10-17 Joge , Fantastic day out. Everything was well organised. Only disappointment was that we did not have time to explore Capri itself as all our time was in Anacapri and the Grotto, which was amazing. All round an excellent tour. 2011-10-09 Greenies , Loved it! Capri is such a beautiful place. My only complaint would be that we found ourselves rushed with a few of the activities. If you take the chairlift to the top of the island to see the views, you're strapped for time to souvenir shop and look around the rest of the island. I guess I understand though because of distance from Rome. However, we did get to see the Blue Grotto and it was amazing. The line can get long and it's a short excursion but a unique experience. So I guess if you choose to do the chairlift and grotto, your time is more limited - but those 2 activities really make the trip.
A grumbling I heard from others was that they felt that the tour was encouraging souvenir buying a little too much at the rest stop stores we stopped by during the bus trip. That didn't really bother me. We loved it! 2011-10-04 dsc312 , The weather was excellent so we got to do everything. Capri was so beautiful. So amazing. Can't recommend enough. Try to leave lunch early so you have enough time to take the chair lifts to the summit where the views are spectacular!!! 2011-09-27 thatmaori ,
