metres of travertine stone and contained 50.000 seats. This place
witnessed bloody fights between bests and gladiators.
The Palatine hill (visit) was the Emperors’ residence. The
impressive architectural vestiges along with gardens, nimphaeums,
fountains, etc. yet evidence the emperors’ private as well as
their public role. Here are located the houses of Augustus and
Livia, the residence of the Severi and Tiberius’ Domus, with its
large stadium and the terraces from which, an impressive view
of the Circus Maximus is appreciated. During the II c. A.D.,
this building could host up to 250.000 spectators.
The Roman Forum (visit) was the
real historical centre of Republican and Imperial Rome, with its
ancient Basilicas, triumphal arches, honorary columns, ancient
pagan cemeteries and the covered market on four levels that Trajan
had raised. At the centre of the Forum, after twenty centuries, it
is possible to walk on the same cobble-stones of the Sacred Way,
leading to the Capitoline Hill. The Square of Venice, in
which at the centre rises the monumental complex called
